Barbara Tilton Carlino

On January 31, 2022, Mrs. Barbara Tilton Carlino passed away at age 103. Mrs. Carlino was born on January 1, 1919 in Toms River. Barbara attended school in Toms River and graduated from Toms River High School in 1936. Employed by the Toms River School Board, Barbara acted as the Administrative Secretary to the high school Principal from 1937 to 1982. Barbara was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River for 90 years, a member of the Ocean County Historical Society and was inducted into the Toms River Schools Hall of Fame in 2003. Mrs. Carlino married her husband, Michael on November 10, 1946. Mr. Carlino was a retired U.S. Marine and former Deputy Police Chief in Toms River. He passed away in 1995. Mrs. Carlino also had a sister, Margaret Hotaling who passed way in 2014 and a nephew, William Lee Hotaling who passed away in 2015. She is survived by her nephew’s wife, Susan Hotaling of Minnesota, and nephew, Arthur Joseph Hotaling and wife Penny of Michigan and Missouri. She is also survived by grand-nephews and nieces and 3 godchildren. Barbara will especially be missed by her neighborhood families. The “Skittles Lady” was the focal point for many children, young adults and older neighbors. We will truly miss spending time with such a wonderful woman. Visiting hours for Mrs. Carlino will be on Sunday, February 6 from 2:00PM-6:00PM at the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 412 Main St., Toms River. There will be a graveside service on Monday, February 7 at 10:00AM at Riverside Cemetery, Route 166 and Old Freehold Rd., Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Toms River PBA Local 137 Vest Fund, PO Box 5011, Toms River, NJ 08754 or to the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08753.
