Charles P. Van Riper

March 17, 1930 - November 4, 2016

Charles P. Van Riper, 86, of Whiting passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016. Charles was the Co-Owner and ran a diner in Newark for many years. Charles served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid Duplicate Bridge player, a devoted fan of Bing Crosby, but most of all loved all of God’s creatures, especially dogs. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Catharine Van Riper and his brother Robert Van Riper.Charles is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elisa and siblings, John Van Riper of West Caldwell and Helen Drury and her husband Patrick of Randolph. Also surviving are his nieces and nephew, Beth Thraen, Cathy Barto, Patrick Drury, Diane Storz, and Nancy Drury. A visitation will be held on Wednesday 8:30am-10:30am at “The Family Owned” Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 66 Lacey Road, Whiting. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:45am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charles’ name to PAWS, P.O.
