David A. Murphy, 95, passed from this life on December 24,2021. Born on Staten Island, NY on February 25, 1926 to William and Angelina Murphy, David spent much of his life on Staten Island before retiring to Toms River and most recently Whiting NJ. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the European theater during World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning home, he continued his long career with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and met the love of his life and wife of over sixty-seven years, Mary Fiore, and raised his two daughters. Upon retiring, he enjoyed traveling, visiting European countries, Bermuda, and also sites within the United States, the Grand Canyon among them. His favorite trips were to Ireland and Italy, the lands of his forebears. He was also a sports fan, most especially football and golf. In his later years, his weekly dominoes games with his brothers and sisters was what he enjoyed most, surpassed, though, by visits with his great-grandchildren. In addition to his beloved wife Mary, David is survived by devoted daughters Dr. Angela Miller and Teresa Mackey (Wade), as well as many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Daniel and Richard Murphy, and sisters Anna Lucchese, Dolores Fiore, and Dorothy Torrone, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. David was a truly wonderful man, who will be sorely missed. Due to the ongoing escalation of covid-19, services will be private and under the direction of the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals. David would have appreciated donations made in his name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
