Commissioner Katherine R. Rightmire, age 96, of Whiting, passed away Friday, June 30 at home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she lived in many parts of the world before retiring and moving to Whiting in 1989. As an officer in the Salvation Army for 47 years, she and her husband served in several appointments around the United States, as well as in Japan, Korea and South Africa. Katherine is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Commissioner Robert Rightmire; her daughter, Major Evelyn Merriam (husband, Paul) Lancaster, PA; her son, Dr. David Rightmire (wife, Dawn) Wilmore, KY; and her brother, Arthur Stillwell, Coronado, CA. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation and funeral service will be on Saturday 7/8 at the Salvation Army Ocean County Corps, 1738 Route 37 East, Toms River. Internment will take place Sunday at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
