Toms River, NJ – Rev. Ronald P. Amabile, 74, originally of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 18th, 2019. A devoted son to Joseph and Mildred Amabile, Ron was well known in the Greenville section of Jersey City. He honed his quick wit and comedic talents while enjoying a cold one at Whitey’s on Sterling Ave, and it’s been his lasting legacy. If you knew Ron, you knew laughter well. He was swept off his feet after meeting his one true love, Judy Kelly. They became the King and Queen of the road, traveling up and down the East Coast to the tunes of Johnny Cash and Elvis. From the rocky shores of Maine, through the winding roads of the Smokey Mountains, down to the sunny shores of Florida; they cruised the highways and created lasting memories. They were also gracious hosts to friends and family at their cabin in the Ponderosa Pines Campground. The yearly ‘Jamborees’ were legendary, and still spoken of to this day. Ron and Judy were just shy of their 40th wedding anniversary this coming June. Ron was also a world renown histologist at Overlook Hospital in Summit for close to 40 years. He was a true artist and left others in awe of his steady hands and slicing techniques. Ron also made the day go by much quicker with his one liners and uncanny impressions. He was a lover of things that were tried and true; his mom’s and Judy’s spaghetti and meatballs, a cold Budweiser, Wrangler snap front shirts, black Cadillacs, Remington guns (in case of bears), White Castle burgers, fishing, the History Channel, and big shiny boats. Ron was also known by many to offer unsolicited knowledge on how just about anything worked, especially airplanes. Despite his best efforts, his sister still does not know how they fly. Ron leaves behind many friends and family who loved and cherished him. He was a loving and doting husband to his caring wife Judy. A supportive brother to JoAnn and Bob, as well as a great brother-in-law to Veronica, Kathy, and Gary. An amazing uncle to his nieces Kim and Allison, and newly great-uncle to Alex and Marielle. He was also the proud cat dad to many furry ones throughout the years, and leaves behind the current duo of Kali and LaBouf. Following his wishes, there will be a private family gathering held at a later date. Well-wishers are asked to donate to the End Polio Now Foundation at www.endpolio.org/donate or payment can be made out to The Rotary Foundation, with a note of ‘Polio/End Polio Now’ in the memo section and mailed to: The Rotary Foundation 14280 Collections Center Dr. Chicago, IL 60693 We know Grandma Millie has the meatballs and gravy ready for you Ron, and we’re all jealous. Safe travels and see you soon.
