Susan Cleary

January 10, 2021

Susan Cleary 9/13/47 - 1/10/21 Susan grew up in Staten Island, NY. She graduated Nursing School in 1967 and began her selfless service as a Nurse in the Emergency Dept. at St Vincent’s in Staten Island, NY. Over the years Susan worked as a Nurse in many Hospitals, her life took her from Staten Island, Brooklyn, Freehold, NJ and She ended her career as the Director of Nursing for a local Nursing Home in Fort Meyers Florida. She was living in North Fort Meyers Fl. when her MS started to take over and forced her to retire from Nursing. After the loss of her second husband, Tom Cleary, Susan moved back to New Jersey to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She volunteered her time at Southern Ocean Medical Center and worked part time at Costco, handing out samples and being able to socialize and active within the community. Once her MS worsened, Susan had to stop working and volunteering all together. She moved into Cornerstone in Barnegat and loved reading, knitting, and playing Mahjong with her friends. She loved the visits from her children and grandchildren. She loved being called Nanny by her grandchildren. MS made living on her own impossible, she had to move into the Seacrest Nursing home Tuckerton, NJ in Nov 2019. She gave the wonderful and caring staff a run for their money as she was a Nurse. She kept them on her toes. Susan had a great sense of humor and always kept everyone on their toes. You did not come and visit her without bringing her a cup of Wawa coffee! Susan was predeceased by her husband, Tom Cleary in 2004 and her Son Eddie who passed away more than 20 years ago. Susan is survived by her children: Son, John Elefante and Daughter-in-law , Laurie Pearson, Daughter Michelle Lynn Elefante, her Grandchildren: Nick, Breanna, Mason, Gabriella, Bella and Adrianna, her Sister Janet Naouli, Brother-in-law, El Mustapha Naouli, Brother, Stephen Ashley, Sister in law Kim Ashley. Services for Susan were private. In lieu of flowers please make Donation to the MS Society in Susan’s name.
